Ibn Kathir is the revered Imam 'Imadud-dien Abul Fidae' Ismail ibn 'Umar Ibn Kathir, El Qurashi, El Busrawi, may Allah have mercy on him. He was originally from Mejdel near Busra (born in 701 H. / 1300 AD) and educated and living in Damascus.

 

 

 

The historian Jamalud-din Yusuf ibn Seyfud-Din characterized him as follows: "He is the Sheig, the Imam and scholar 'Imadud-din Abul Fidae." He taught extensively and was very active in collecting knowledge and writing. He was excellent in Fiqh, Tefsier and Hadith. He gathered knowledge, wrote books, taught, narrated Hadith and wrote. He had immense knowledge of Fiqh, Tefser and Hadith, the Arabic language etc. He was known for his precision, his extensive knowledge and as a scholar in history, Hadith and Tefsier. "
